Vandana Gupte is the daughter of Amar Varma and Indian classical singer Manik Varma. She has three sisters namely, Aruna Jaiprakash, Rani Varma who is an Indian singer and recordist, and Bharati Achrekar who is an Indian Hindi and Marathi actress.

Vandana got married to the criminal defense lawyer, Shirish Gupte. The couple tied the knot on 20 March 1973. They are blessed with a son named Abhijit Gupte. In 2023, Vandana and Shirish celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Vandana made her debut in the Marathi movie ‘Pasant Aahe Mulgi’ in 1989. Her notable movies include Pachhadlel (2004), Meerabai Not Out (2008), Samaantar (2009), and Andhali Koshimbir (2014).

She started her career in 1970 with the Marathi language all-women play ‘Padmashree Dhundiraj.’ This was followed by many plays such as ‘Madanbaadhaa,’ ‘Gaganbhedi,’ ‘Jhunja,’ ‘Char Diwas Premache,’ etc. She appeared in a Hindi play named ‘Char Din Pyaar Ke.’ Her Marathi play ‘Haravlelya Pattyancha Banglaa’ gained a lot of applause from the audience.
