A large number of people took shelter due to the storm. Hundreds of houses remained in darkness for several hours due to the storm. According to BBC report, a fierce storm hit the states on Saturday night (local time) where temperatures are running very high, with Cook County in Texas, north of Dallas, being one of the worst affected areas. Local sheriff Ray Sappington told local media that at least five people have been killed and the death toll is expected to rise. He said that meanwhile search and rescue operations are going on and they are hopeful of finding survivors.

Footage on local media showed a fuel station almost completely destroyed, with metal twisted and vehicles damaged. Two people were killed and six others injured in Mayes County in Oklahoma, the BBC reported, citing the local emergency management authority. One death was reported in Arkansas, according to US media reports.

The tornado also affected surface traffic, overturning trucks and closing highways, while downed poles knocked out power supplies. Officials said it could take several days to restore services. According to reports, parts of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee were under threat of severe weather on Sunday after devastating the southern plains.
