Washington. US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are likely to meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan gave this information here on Wednesday. While departing to Italy on Air Force One with the US President to attend the G7 summit, Sullivan told reporters that ‘President Biden hopes that Prime Minister Modi will come there. We hope that both the leaders can meet each other. It is not known at the moment how the meeting will be as the schedule is very busy.’

Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra told reporters in New Delhi that Modi will leave for Italy on Thursday on his first foreign visit after assuming the post of Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Italy has invited India as an ‘outreach country’ for the 50th G7 summit to be held on June 14. Kwatra confirmed Modi’s meeting with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. He said, however, the details of the Prime Minister’s meetings with bilateral or other leaders are still being worked out.

Sullivan told reporters aboard Air Force One that Biden had spoken to Modi over the phone and congratulated him on the election results and on taking oath as Prime Minister for the third time. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will sign a bilateral security agreement on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Italy on Thursday. The member countries of the G7 group have agreed on how to give Ukraine the aid of US $ 50 billion received from seized Russian assets.

The G7 group is discussing ways to use more than $260 billion of its assets seized outside Russia after it invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, to help Kiev. European officials opposed seizing the assets, citing legal and financial stability concerns, the two people said, speaking on condition of anonymity. However, the plan would use interest earned on the assets to help Ukraine’s war effort.
