Knife attack in America, 4 killed, attacker caught by police


Washington: Four people were killed and seven others were injured in a knife attack in northern Illinois, USA, officials said. Rockford Police Chief Carla Red said the 22-year-old suspect is in police custody and is being questioned. She said one of the injured was in critical condition. Red told reporters, “My condolences are with the victims’ families at this time.”

He said Rockford police received the first call at 1.14 pm local time on Wednesday, followed by several more calls. The police chief said no one else is currently suspected of involvement in the incident and “we do not yet know the suspect’s motive as to why he committed such a heinous crime.”

Rockford police initially said five people were injured in the incident, but Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office public relations officer Corey Hilliard said in the evening that a total of seven people were injured. According to the official, three people died on the spot while the fourth died in the hospital. Police said the deceased included a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 22-year-old youth. The identities of the four have not been revealed.

A few days before this incident, a teenage employee at a Walmart in Rockford was stabbed to death inside the store. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara said, “Today, we are shocked by another horrific act of violence against innocent members of our community.” He said, “Now that the suspect is in custody, our primary concern is to ensure that those directly affected by this violence are helped.”
