Jyoti Maurya was born on 9 September 1990 in Chiraigaon village in Varanasi (popularly known as Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India. After her marriage in 2010, she requested her husband, Alok Maurya, to help her study further. He complied with her request and got her enrolled at a coaching centre in Prayagraj (then- Allahabad). She studied at Vajirao & Reddy Institute and Disha IAS Academy under D. N. Pandey. After clearing the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Combined State/Upper Subordinate examination in 2015, she pursued a career as an Administrative Officer.

Career
She secured 16th rank in the UPPSC Combined State/Upper Subordinate examination in 2015, and after completing her training, she was allotted the post of Deputy Collector on 5 July 2016. On 5 July 2016, she was posted as Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM)/Deputy Collector of the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh and served there till 16 October 2017. On 17 October 2017, she became the Deputy Collector of the Sirathu and Chail tehsil of Kaushambi district and served there till 5 October 2021.

On 6 October 2021, she assumed the office of Deputy Collector of Pratapgarh district and served there till 22 October 2021. From 23 October 2021 to 31 March 2023, she served as the Deputy Collector of Prayagraj district. As per one source, she took on the role of General Manager (GM) of a sugar mill in the Bareilly district, and as per another source, she was posted as the GM of GM Sugar Mills Ltd in Lucknow on 31 March 2023.

Extra-marital affair
In June 2023, Jyoti’s husband came out in public and alleged that Jyoti was cheating on him with Manish Dubey, a Home Guard Commandant posted in Ghaziabad. He revealed in an interview that Dubey’s wife contacted him in 2020 and informed him about their extramarital affair. He also said that Jyoti first met Manish on Facebook. When Alok asked Jyoti about it, she denied having any affair and asked him to show any proof before making such allegations.
He said that Jyoti once went to Lucknow on the pretext of work, and he followed her. He said that he saw her meeting Manish there, and Jyoti and Manish spent the night together at Hotel Myriad in Lucknow, booked by Manish. The next morning, when Alok confronted her and asked about Manish, Jyoti said that she loved Manish. He also alleged that Jyoti threatened him with filing a case against him and his family members under IPC 376 (related to rape) and other serious charges. Alok also released the WhatsApp chat between Jyoti and Manish in which they sent many intimate messages to each other.

He also showed a diary and claimed that Jyoti kept a record of bribes she had taken while working as an SDM. He also requested Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, to help him. He alleged that he complained to the Commissioner of Prayagraj Police and ASO, Dhoomanganj in April 2023; however, no action was taken against Jyoti.

Alok also alleged that Jyoti conspired with Manish to kill her. Jyoti responded to Alok’s allegations by saying that she was innocent and would answer the allegations in court. She also filed an FIR against Alok and his family members for dowry harassment. After the news of her affair became viral, DG, Home Guards, B. K. Maurya ordered an investigation into the matter. There were viral reports that Jyoti has been suspended from her post; however, it could not be confirmed.

In July 2023, a video got viral in which Jyoti allegedly used casteist slurs against Alok and his family. Jyoti termed the video fake, and Alok did not verify the video’s correctness. Bhim Army protested against Jyoti Maurya after the video got viral and requested the police to take action against her.

- People started trolling her on social media after Alok claimed that she was cheating on him. Many people shared memes comparing the situation to Suryavansham film featuring Amitabh Bachchan in which he also supported his wife who later became an IAS Officer. There were reports that more than 100 husbands forced their wives to quit preparing for government examinations fearing a similar outcome.
