Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on an official visit to the US in June last year and during that time this historic agreement was announced. ‘General Electric’ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ‘Hindustan Aeronautics’ to manufacture fighter aircraft engines for the Indian Air Force.

Big statement by US Defense Minister
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the House Appropriations Subcommittee that the US has excellent relations with India. He said, ‘We recently helped India make aircraft engines and this is a kind of revolution. This will increase their capabilities. We are also building an armored vehicle with India.’ The Defense Minister further said that if taken together, then all this is much more than the work done in the field in a long time.

First flight of Tejas Mark-1A
The first successful flight of LCA Tejas Mark 1A was completed at HAL facility in Bengaluru. This fighter aircraft remained in the air for 18 minutes during its first flight. Tejas Mark 1A is a modern and 4+ generation fighter aircraft. It can be refueled in the air, which further increases its capability. Also, this fighter jet is equipped with Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar, BVR i.e. Beyond Visual Range Missile, Electronic Warfare Suite. The Indian Air Force has signed an agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for 83 LCA Mark 1A Tejas. While the purchase of additional 97 Tejas Mark 1A fighters has already been approved by the Defense Procurement Council.
