Producer
In February 1998, Deepak Dhar started working as a Senior Producer at MTV and continued until December 2001. After that, he joined the Star Network as a Group Head in January 2001 and worked there until January 2006. In February 2006, he became a Creative Director at Endemol Shine India. He got promoted to the position of Managing Director in January 2008.
In 2006, Deepak Dhar, along with Rajesh Kamat, started Endemol India (which later became Endemol Shine India in 2015) in a small office in Andheri, Mumbai. In the first week, Kamat gave Dhar CDs of the famous show Big Brother, which was a big hit worldwide and produced by Endemol. Kamat suggested Deepak to introduce and produce such reality show programmes in India. He then presented and produced the reality show Bigg Boss in 2006.
Later, Dhar created a market for comedy programs and found talented comedians like Raju Srivastav and Kapil Sharma. The CEO of Star TV India at that time, Sameer Nair, supported Dhar’s comedy programs.
In 2008, Kamat went to work for Viacom18, where he began a new TV channel called Colors. At the same time, Dhar took on the role of managing director at Endemol India. Afterwards, the TV show Bigg Boss started airing on Colors for its next season. In April 2012, Deepak Dhar became the Managing Director and CEO of Endemol Shine India. However, he later chose to step down from his position as managing director in December 2017. In April 2018, Deepak Dhar started his own production house titled ‘Banijay Asia.’ He produced various web series like Traffic (2018), Hostages (2019), Bombers (2019), Roar of the Lion (2019), Parchhayee: Ghost Stories by Ruskin Bond (2019), The Test Case (2017), Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (2008), and The Voice (India) (2015) under his production house.
